Her Mighty Pen is a collective that empowers system-affected women and non-binary people to write and tell the stories that are important to them.
Her/their Mighty Pen: Life writing from women’s prisons is out now with Unbarred Press
HMP is a powerful collection of memoir, poetry, letters, short stories and essays written by women and non-binary people in prison, published on 3rd September by Unbarred Press.
“One of the most extraordinary collections of life writing I've read. We urgently need this book.”
Max Porter
We run courses, workshops and writers’ circles in prisons, women’s centres and other community spaces
We believe that writing is power, and that everyone should have the means and opportunity to express themselves, their experiences and their stories through writing.
We are developing creative life writing courses and workshops to support system-affected women and non-binary people to write what needs to be written.
We are also developing writers circles in the community and in women’s prisons, to support sustained creative communities of practice - spaces of mutual support, exchange and growth for writers.
We offer mentoring to writers in and beyond prison who want to develop and publish their work
Not all writing needs to be published - writing for oneself or close others is just as valuable.
However, where writers feel their work needs to be in the public domain (to inspire, to inform), we want them to have the support they need to take that significant step.
